My name is Alberto Troisi and in 2014 I decided to flee the city for a “slower” life more connected with nature.
Together with my retired parents we bought and renovated this ancient Sabina farmhouse built more than a century ago in the area of Collevecchio. The house is surrounded by a 7-hectar olive grove with some native plants.
That’s how Colle dei Gelsi farm was born. It is currently producing olive oil and honey and starting experiments with fermentations.
Our production is quality and sustainability oriented and by now it is just more than enough for our family consumption.
The goal is a progressive growth that is not aimed at poduction only but that includes all aspects of life and that is in line with a new spirit of research and the respect of natural resources.
The farmhouse has been divided into apartments which can be rented separately for both short and long periods.
During the renovation we have mainly used locally found and produced materials trying to respect the historic period and the rural environment in which the house was first conceived.
The result is a cozy and ancient atmosphere, extremely evocative where it is easy to feel “home” surrounded by objects, materials and furniture whose production can date up to three centuries back, without giving up the modern living comforts.
The farm is named “Colle dei Gelsi” (Mulberry hill) after the centenarian mulberry trees, possibly used for silkworm breeding. Only a line of these trees is still there and particularly the huge tree in front of the house which is surrounded by a stone table inhancing its majesty.
Our guests can freely wander through the grove and the fields, use the external facilities and the vegetable garden, cuddle our two big dogs and many cats, take part to the farming activities and if they wish they can visit our hives, wearing the protecting gears that we will provide.
You will immediately be immersed in a calm environment, rich with smells, flavours, and noises typical of the rural life.
We organise excursions and trips to visit the marvelous places around Sabina, Umbria and Tuscia.
We like to promote and host courses and workshops related to environmental sustainability, DIY and renewable energies, plus everything linked to ecology even in a psycho-physical domain: yoga, meditation and other holistic disciplines.
